Bone meal?

Wondering if you could use bone meal as a calcium suppliment for birds? Calciboost is expensive and has to be shipped in, but I can get bone meal locally. Anyone have any ideas on if it can be used or not? Thanks.

You can also use "feed grade" limestone

Well, I got the bone meal (couldn't find any feed grade limestone, or ANY limestone for that matter, lol). Is this stuff supposed to be brownish? I was expecting white powder.
And, how should I dose this stuff?

I'd deffinatly see no qualms with using bonemeal, it is calcium after all

If bone didn't stink so bad when you grind it I'd probably make my own bonemeal haha! I just use oystershells, the big stuff goes to the chickens and the powdery fine stuff goes to the quails and chicks

A magic bullet will grind oyster shell but at your own risk. It takes 5mins for the powder to stop swirling around when you flip it over and who knows what it does to the blade after repeated grinding. Had to test it though. I mostly use a liquid reptile supplement, ground up cuttlebone (yay magic bullet), and ground up egg shells. Mostly chicken egg shells since the chickens can eat oyster shell.

Bone meal has a high contaminant level and the common sources are not recommended for use as a human or animal supplement. I would at least make sure you use a better grade than what's sold for gardening.
