Boody Hen calls it quits after 3 weeks!

I did try!! But I am thinking it was something to do with the incubator! They said none of their chickens ever hatched, only their ducks! So I need to get a hygrometer and make sure the humidity is right for chicks!! I am going to actually try some eggs in mid-late July so hopefully my new gadgets and a whole incubator full of eggs helps!!

The egg was completely uncovered. She hasn't laid an egg though so I don't know! I just think she lost interest! For 19 days she laid on that thing! She lost so much weight and hardly ever got off! It was her first time so I think she did a great job! It I would have listen to people and my gut I would have fenced Hannah in and made her finish! After seeing her reward, she would have been I made her sit! Plus, it has been so hot here, I am wondering if that is some of the reason too! She has been laying in the dust bed just bathing herself! Oh, well! I am still going to figure out if my incubator caused it and if she wants to brood again I am going to let her! With this being our first time, I thik we both did a pretty good job! But next time, we will do better!!

So are you For Sure that the chick died? Or do you just Think it died? I'm just alittle confused here ...

So sorry to hear this. You did everything you could possibly do. It's possible the incubator didn't have the proper humidity, but it could of been a number of factors. I've had chicks die after zipping the entire egg open. It's heartbreaking. I agree you should give the hen another shot in the future.
