Book Club

It's a great idea. I, too, love to read but I am not a "joiner" because I don't like obligations. I am a history buff and just finished a great little book: "A Nickel's Worth of Skim Milk" (A Boy's View of the Great Depression). I've been to the Marion, Illinois, area and know some people there. I was surprised to read that many early coal miners in Illinois came from Appalachia. Southern Illinois is entirely different from Chicago. We learn something interesting every time we read, don't we?

Have you read Upton Sinclairs book The Jungle. I started reading it after Slaughterhouse because I was interested in the history of factory farming and the changes made. It is a classic and worth a read. Not a happy book though.

PattyO, no, I haven't read Upton Sinclair's book but I will see if our library has it. Right now I am reading mysteries mostly, in large print--old tired eyes from quilting and reading, I guess. I think I have checked out every quilting book on the shelf and have bought a couple that I like.

Thanks for the tip.

I love to read. I will maybe join. I will keep checking and when you decide what book you are reading I will decide then.

How fickle am I? I just got done with the Chicken Chronicles by Alice Walker and thought that was a terrific book. Way too short though.

I love reading!! I try to read a few pages every night before bed. My husband and I read the same books, either he reads first or I read first and then we swap them out. We mainly read True Crimes books. Right now he is reading a book that was based on a true story that took place in Mesa, AZ (since we live close to there). And I am reading the Devils Butcher Swap- which is based on the New Mexico Prison Riot in 1980. I just finished up reading a book I believe it was called the Officers Wife. It was based on the murder of an Air Force Captain. It was very touching- since I knew this Captain and I was stationed at the same base when it happened. It was cool (probably a bad choice of words) to read about where things happened- since I have been to these stores and I knew exactly where what they were talking about.
