Even look at standard poodle they excel at bird work and smarter you never met a kennel clip is easy to care for

I love poodles!

I have actually looked at those several times too and keep coming back to them! Every time I think I’ve finally decided on a breed, I keep finding/being reminded of another one. :lau

Starting to think of moving away from herding breeds and back to sporting breeds haha

And I really love the standard poodles. A lot of people think they are just frou frou dogs but they are actually quite athletic.

And I am loving the idea of a non shedding dog. So sick of dealing with shedding and brushing haha

Adopting a rescue/ shelter dog is one thing; searching out a quality purebred is a totally separate project. With the first, what you see is what you get, warts and all.
With a purebred, finding the right breeder, meeting the dogs, and discussing/ evaluating pertinent health issues should (Hopefully!) produce a dog who's typical of the breed, and avoids it's common problems.
We've done both, with great and not so great results.
Planning is good, and then sometimes a critter just falls in your lap, and you're hooked, and done.

Thanks again!! Very helpful. DB & SIL have two rescues and they are both amazing and our last dog was a mutt and he was awesome but I think I’d like to go with a purebred from a reputable breeder this time but idk. I’ve also been looking at Craigslist. I don’t like how much most rescues charge now ha

I’ve been planning and researching for years ever since we had our first dog. :lau

Always wanted to try certain dog sports or certain breeds or whatever and the list is ever evolving. :lau

I am sure though that one day, the perfect dog will just fall into my lap haha

Or I hope so anyway.

Your correct and field dog is always better for hunting and home verses show

Yeah, I think you are definitely right about that. Sadly most show lines can’t work anymore. :( although some like the Brittany seem to still be bred for versatility and there are many dual titles dogs which is a relief but most, the show and field lines may as well be two separate breeds. :hmm

My favorite breed, although we don't have one now, is still the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Not 'pretty' enough to win in shows often, and definitely dual purpose. Also has not been popular, fortunately. Not for everyone, very guard oriented, quiet in the house, and good bird dogs.

I have met a few over the years. They were solid, well muscled dogs. I found their coats quite interesting as well as the fact that they quietly paid attention to everything going on around them.
