Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, All Herding breeds, Tell Me About Yours

 I took on 2 brothers. They were awesome! Neither one ever answered to the others name. Both were a joy to have.

They were half weimaraner (never could spell that :hmm) and German Wire Haired Pointers.

Yes trying to train 2 young pups at the same time has unique challenges.....they were so worth it though.

The show type setters have a LOT of coat, and are larger. The field type are smaller and easier to manage as far as the hair is concerned; more like a 'normal' dog!

I do prefer the field type. We'd probably attempt to train it for hunting. Not sure how successful we will be, we weren't too good at training the coonhounds to hunt. :) Hopefully a bird dog is easier.

I had fun with our second Chessie, training her with her breeder and other local people also interested in doing the AKC hunt tests. We got through the Working Dog and WDX tests, and had a blast! My hubby was very glad too; he hunted her and was glad she was so trained. We also showed bench, and obedience up to Open, and did a passive protection class.
Our GSHP did obedience, hated bench showing, and did pointer type hunt tests. I had a lot to learn about training a pointer, and didn't do him justice for that field work. It was still fun!

It can definitely work and some dogs never have any issues!! I think the key is to make sure you also separate them some like do training separate or take them places separate or whatever so they’re not always together and don’t get too bonded to each other haha

Them bonding is good but some dogs get so distraught when they’re separated haha

They sound like nice dogs!!

@Folly's place thanks for all the info! Very helpful and informative haha

Maybe with the right breeder they wouldn’t be nervous? Upon looking there are several Brittany breeders around here haha

But there’s many breeders of many different types of dogs here. Advantages of being in populated area haha just depends on what I want.

Still haven’t decided that yet.

Working border collies seem to be hard to come by but there seem to be several Aussies but still not that common whereas herding dogs were everywhere in Florida. Up here it seems hunting dogs are a lot more common. Labs, goldens, and the spaniels/setters/pointers/upland type dogs.
