Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, All Herding breeds, Tell Me About Yours

Very true. I have owned several dogs over the decades. Only 2 of those were purebred. One is just 17 weeks old now.

There certainly is more to picking a dog than picking a breed.

Very true.

We've always had rescues or mixes but I kind of want a dog from a reputable breeder for once for the next one but idk. I may end up with a rescue or Craigslist dog lol

We rescued a corgi x sheltie he was adorable full grumble to warn the others in his face
but not a word to the birds he would go in lay down their walking around cockerel layed next to him .. he was all of 5 when we rescued him maybe 7 we lost him this last year View attachment 1992952

He was a cutie. :love

Sorry you lost him. :( :hugs

Shame he didn't live longer but thank you for giving him a good home and love and happiness for those last couple years of his life. :love :hugs

I am sure he appreciated it. :love

I have always gotten puppies myself. My dogs are with me for their whole life. We plan for them. We take good care of them. We don't contribute to pet overpopulation. My dogs are all spayed. I don't want to be guilted into rescuing a dog. I consider mine as rescued from those types of situations because I don't give up on a dog.

I like to know up front what to expect from a dog. It makes it more enjoyable. I commend those who take on the unwanted and mixed dogs, but don't make me feel bad for seeking out a purebred puppy. All dogs need good homes.

No guilt tripping from me.

I have mostly had mixed dogs because that is what has been available and they have all been ones that fit what I was looking for.

My purebred dogs.....well this puppy is one hubby wanted FOREVER....they have been good too.

Personally I don't care if they are pure or mixed as long as they are loved and we'll cared for.

I get a dog it stays as long as it alive but as my last Belgian was passing I was asked to evaluate what I was told was a beagle female spayed I had folks drop off a dog that was so fat I had two cinder blocks for steps to my home she could not jump them I sat on the ground and hugged her the next day we started road work my back was not going to survive lifting her to get in he name was Booty better known as Boo Boo hard to say who rescued who

I don’t think anyone was trying to guilt trip or make anyone feel bad and I am sure tons of people here have had purebreds. :love

I did think the article was leaning a bit more towards rescue but still several good points in it.

But I do also understand what you mean about raising/training a puppy yourself and knowing what to expect with certain breeds. I feel the same way which is why I am wanting a purebred for my next dog.
