Bored out of my mind and want to talk about chickens...........

Ahh I see. You can see the breeds I raise hehe, I am thinking of getting into the Kraienkoppes maybe next year. Really I'm fine with the Marans, and I'm fine with lavenders. But I am picky, I'm kind of a "preservationist" and do not like it if the new colors were created by an out cross.

I get what you are saying about the out crossing to get all of the different colors. I prefer to not do that either. Only time I ever did was with my WLR wyandottes. Crossed out with WLR cornish to improve color and lacing but they didnt look like good wyandottes again until they were 15/16th wyandotte again. color was improved but taking 4 or 5 or 6 generations to get back to type is tough.
what OEG do you raise? I have raised some in the past. Had some nice blacks, whites and BB reds.
I do like some of the heritage breeds from europe but I hate to see so many of the heritage breeds that were the foundation of our poultry here in the US go by the wayside. Just waxing nostalgic I suppose haha...

I raise the Silvers right now, but am kind of on the fence if I plan to keep them. They look good, and I like their personalities but aren't really my "cup-o-tea". It kind of took awhile for my hen to start setting, and I finally had three chicks hatch this year (out of about 12 eggs). Two were weak and died, though one is making it. I may try and go another year, but after trying to get some since 2007 it is kind of discouraging.

And yeah I see what you mean, I'd probably preserve some of those too but just haven't really found any that I'm real interested in. Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough? I have debated on the Buckeyes and Rose comb Rhode island reds before though

I have always loved the look of Silver Duckwings honestly. Too bad yours are not producing like you would prefer.
In regards to a heritage breeds I would like to have some LF White Langshans and some RC Black or SC/RC White Minorcas. I think all of those are large majestic birds. Just my opinion.
And yeah a night owl here. Watching harry potter on hbo currently also haha...

Yeah I have pics of birds I used to have. I lost the great majority of my flock about two years ago to a rash of varmint attacks at our farm. I posted a bunch of them on the Wyandotte thread a while back. I want to say the pics are on maybe the mid 70s pages......
I only have a few birds at the moment but am working on my numbers and varieties. Oh yes, I raise wyandotte bantams not the LF.

Here are a few pics from back in the day....

i bought two e.es and a nhr at two weeks old. they are now six weeks old and since three is the max number of chicks i can have, i think i wanna trade my easter egger for a barred rock. (you know, variation!) i feel kind of bad and think i might be attatched. tomorrow is the chicken swap and i REALLY want a barred rock, but my girls have all grown up together, ( and this e.e i wanna swap is the feisty one that is not that fun to be around). i got my girls before i was chicken saavy and have realized that i really dont like easter eggers that much, i am more fond of a traditional orpington or barred rock...and she isnt even very friendly. i just feel bad breaking thewm up what would you do?

good chicken late night talk?

Nice. Now see those Columbian(?) Wyandottes I might could get into.

Aubrey, I probably wouldn't pay much thought to it much. Chickens are flock creatures but can do fine on their own too, especially if they have at least something to spend time with (you or a dog, cat, etc). Some people probably won't like my comment, but it is just from what I've seen. Most of the birds I've experienced were games (though I have owned EEs, SilkieXgame crosses, Rhode island red, Langshan, Fayoumi, Red junglefowl and been around various breeds) so maybe that is the reason, but from my observation they will be fine.
