Shutter speeds of 1/250. plenty of light so you can still get a deep depth of field in the photo. Avoid using flash. Use a single point of focus on a target bird. The one you are trying to show off. For a group shot use a wide angle lens or the wide part of a zoom lens. Your knowledge is over half the image. The camera is part and the lens is the other part.
