BOSS or Scratch?

Quote:
You're correct, I misspoke--I guess I should have indicated that scratch tends to promote extra fat in the birds whereas BOSS doesn't seem to. I'm aware of the difference types of fats, have a wife and two daughters that are forever worried about them.

Our girls wont even eat cracked corn only boss, if we mix them they will pickout the boss and leave the rest. How spoiled are they anyway?

Mine go after it like it was candy. I think chickens have to generally get a taste for something. Mine didn't like BOSS when I first offered some, now they'd rather eat that than layer pellets.

I offer mine layer pellets mixed with some BOSS and then in the evenings I scatter some cracked corn.

I toss BOSS into the run every morning, to keep the chickens from tripping me whilst I fill the feeder and check waterers. In the afternoon or evening, when I get home, I'll give them one of a variety of treats which I feed them out of my hands. (I have more time then to make sure everybody gets some.) When I don't have anything else, I'll give them BOSS for that late snack, too.

BOSS supports feather growth and the oils in it make the feathers all nice and glossy.

We put out scratch and wild bird seed as treats together.
Some of the banties seem to eat the smaller bird seed a little more often, while the biggest seem to devour the corn.
I just give them the choice and let them go -- although with the feed we put out, I really doubt they even need this stuff.
I just consider them "treats" and not much more.

Uhm, will it say "BOSS" or "Black Oil Sunflower Seeds"?

Also, where do you get "scratch" from? I've never seen anything labeled as such.

Thanks!

Scratch. They love corn and its a more diverse treat. You can always buy a small bag and mix in, I do that occasionally. It will say Sunflower Seeds.
