I guess I took to long to write my post and missed yours about the vet. OH great! I am so happy that there is one decent vet in your area! WHEW! I bet that makes you happy! Let us know what happens

He is looking out for you like none other! He says that not one sparrow falls to the ground without His knowledge, and sure as heck not your puppy! I'm so glad to hear that you're gonna get some help, cause otherwise it would have been tough to deal with by yourself. It would have been possible, yes, but you've been through so much already you don't need the hassle of saline soaks every few hours and all that other great stuff. I hope your baby is doing good, and please keep us posted on your doggy's condition!!! God Bless!!!

P.S. Children come before the animals, PERIOD. I totally agree. Not to say I don't love my animals, because I do, and I would be heartbroken for years having to lose one of them, but it would be nothing compared to how upset I'd be about my kid starving or going without or dying. Kids come first. Good luck!

Thanks everyone.

Chico was a rescue. We took him in, abused and half starved, and have built him up to this:

He is purebred, parents were AKC, but we eventually plan to have him neutered, so we never bothered to spend the money on registering him.

He is a fabulous dog, and is part of our family. He lets the kids ride him like a horse, and is a wonderful protector. He's a bit too excitable for the chickens, but we're working on that.

He was out in the woods with my husband, and must have run into some broken glass or something metal. My husband heard him yelp, and called for him, and Chico came, lame and bleeding everywhere.

Thanks for the prayers. Chico will be okay.

WOW, He is gorgeous, hope everything works out for him and you and your gorgeous little boy. Take care and keep us updated.

Mangled, he is stunning! I love the brindle, very handsome and such a sweet face.

I am so glad you found a vet who is willing to work with you. Cuts on paw pads are a booger and take forever to heel up. Chico is lucky to have you watching over him!

Me and my boxer babies will be praying for you & Chico. Good luck!

Well, I took him in to the vet this AM, and he got quite a work over. They gave him an injection to deaden the paw and did a full disenfective cleaning, then removed the stitches that had pulled themselves out and dried and rewrapped the paw.

He had an injection of antibiotics, a steroid injection, and we came home on Cephalexin for 7 more days, and Deramaxx for the pain.

The meds ran us $51.00, which they will work out a payment option for us later. We weren't charged for anything else, and they worked on him about an hour.

We had to carry him to the car this morning. Tonight, he's up limping around, miserable, but at least he's up.

We go back in for the rest of the stitches out on Friday, plus another cleaning and bandage cgange, and they are going to give me the supplies I need to do 2 more bandage changes at home. There will be no charge for Friday's visit.

Thanks for the compliments. He is quite a handsome fella. He was a bag of bones with no shine in his coat when we got him. He's still a bit hand-shy, but he's getting better.

So glad to hear you were able to get some good help for him! I'm sure he'll be back running on all fours again soon.

Maybe this is a sign of better times ahead for your family.
