I’m pretty darn certain the one with the red cone/waddles (standing in the background) is a rooster but I’m keeping my fingers crossed the other is still a pullet...if not the feed store was 100% wrong on all the baby chicks I got this spring 🤦🏻‍♀️😡 They are 6wk old Lavender Orpingtons. What do y’all think?

1 is a boy and the other is a girl:)

Well I’m glad that it appears one of them is a girl! I’m in town & not supposed to have a rooster so now the dilemma will be rehoming, which will be tough because we love them all so much! My poor kiddo is heartbroken.

Don't fret just yet. They both look like pullets to me based on the tail length. We have 2 Lav Orps and they looked exactly like those at that stage. One developed her comb and waddles much sooner (like 2 months sooner) than the other despite being from the same clutch. Even if one turns out being a Roo he may be a quiet gentleman. Foster good relationships with your neighbors and promise them some eggs when they're ready. Roosters tend to only crow in the AM and they are no noisier than dogs. Shouldn't be a huge problem unless someone complains to code enforcement.

You can not tell sex by looking at the tail this young. At 6 weeks old the one in the back is 100% a cockerel. Hens do not turn that red until they are close to laying.

Also, roosters do not only crow in the morning. Maybe you'll get a snowflake one who does but most, especially juveniles, crow all day. And not sure where you live but it illegal for me to have my dog barking outside all day also.

Can we get an update OP? I have a sneaking suspicion they were both cockerels. If not, that pullet was quick to develop.
