Oops. I read someone's post about their 12-13 week old chickens and thought it was yours. Since your chick is only 8-9 weeks, I'll change my guess to a definite rooster.

I have two barred rock pullets.

Here's a photo of one them at 7-8 weeks:

This photo is of the two of them at 12 weeks:

i had 2 barred rocks and the place where i got them told me they were both girls, but were they wrong!!! i had one girl and one boy. So from my memory i would say what you have is a male barred rock. check the inside of the feathers if they are super short then its a female. but to me it looks like a male.

I think you'll just have to wait and see. I have both these breeds. They looked just like yours growing up and all my chickens are laying hens today. Being pretty new to this, I have no idea what to tell you, especially since you've probably read up on it a bit more than I have. I will say that in regards to the Barred Rock's spot on her head, my lady had the exact same thing. Her spot was pretty big:

As for the other traits, I really missed that phase in their growth when taking pictures, so I don't have anything that shows them looking like yours. But here they are today:

ok so i still have hope i know for sure my rir is a roo he is trying to crow it is so cute lol as for my br i see his tail feathers starting to raise up i will see if i can get pics tomorrow but im starting to think more roo for him too or does hens tails rise up too?

ok yea i see that sorry to call it a br i just dont know what to called it from now on it is called the black and white one lol and rod your prob right as the barring is not clear but i am still keeping my hopes up i will take more pictures tomorrow

I got 15 BR packing peanuts from Ideal. All were supposed to be males, all had large white spots on head. But I somehow ended up with 4 females.

I think the purpose of breeding sex links is to able to tell the sex, though I think it is also for higher egg laying production. If BRs were already sexually linked why breed for sex linking other than production. Just a thought.

BTW I originally thought mine were black sex links until it became apparent that I had several hens.

thanks wolf so i guess it is comming down to see if my br wannabe is going to roo or lay and egg first we will see and i will post lol
