With mine, it seemed fairly easy to sex them as really young baby chicks -- but then it quickly became impossible, and remained impossible or difficult for several weeks after that.

Unfortunately, I can't remember now exactly what stood out to me as different in the baby chicks! I think perhaps size of the head fluff? Maybe color of the head? I got mine as day-olds, and I knew how many males I was supposed to have, so I was kind of cheating anyway....

In any case, enjoy them!

Pull back their crest and look for two small pimples at the base of the crest (the front closes to the beak). Two litle pimples means it is a male.

I acutally have 5 of them out of the 7 mailed from oregon to mi.They are so darn cute those little tufts are starting to stick straight up just like Alfalfa in the little rascals. And a couple of them are getting really cream colored the other couple are darker. They have a frizzle cochin banty mama hen along with 7other chicks it is so cute to see her with all the babies. She has just started taking them outside and they have all been stratching up a storm. She was taking them all back in the coop tonight and up the ladder she hops and 1 by 1 12 little chicks marched up the ramp behind her and off to bed they went.
