brabator experiment!

day 2 and everything seems fine. the ducklings in our incubator seem alright as the temp is stable. the one in my bra is doing fine as well. it survived the night and stayed put where it was supposed to be! temp today is close to yesterdays if not just a tiny bit higher. egg (now being called little fish) survived my work day as well. there were no problems. im getting excited to be able to candle to see progress!

Sounds like you are being rather carful in this little endeavor of yours so did you make a special little pocket for the egg to sit in ....

@gander007 nope! just stuck it under my chest. its large enough to hold the egg in place and keep a good steady temp! best part of a larger chest means that anything i stick in my bra stays warm and never falls out. but yes, i am being extremely careful! i want to make sure everything goes smoothly and use the data i collect to maybe try this in the future of give someone a better idea on how to do it themselves! only thing i added was a small layer of tissue paper around the egg so it wouldn't get too wet from sweat while i worked!

day 3!

egg survived the night without any problem. i will see how work goes today with it. i was able to take a 8 minute bath to no problems with the egg. it remained safe and warm in a warm towel. i will update more in a bit!

I was kind of wondering about the body moisture getting in the egg's pours but you took care of that I see well I know this was dune in the past but have really never read of the entire incubation period so I would like to see how it goes at candling time .......

day 3 extended. the egg survived work yet again! no problems so far. i also realized this is day 4. my bad! i have 24 days to go! i couldn't help but look at it (candled it) and the air pockets looks beautiful and it is in the correct place! this was great news! i also saw a small circle (as it appeared. i was in a dark room when i did this) so i don't know if this is an embryo or not. thee eggs all have in general a semi hard to see through shell. the other three are looking good. im a bit worried though, one of them looks to have a bifurcated air sack. it appears like a bubble split in two and not completely one. i cant find anything about this being bad so i wont assume the worst yet. it is in the right place though, which i guess is good. but all in all all the eggs seem to be doing well. i have changed the tissue paper 3 times since starting this (twice today alone) and it seems to help. (i mean to keep sweat off.) i have let the egg so far have 2 "breathers" like a mama duck would with her offspring. one was 7 minutes to take a bath, the egg was wrapped in my bra and a towel and was still warm when i put everything back in place, the other time was just to give it a small break again and it lasted about 6 minutes in total. i read giving small breaks can be good as long as they stayed covered like a mom duck would do.

day 5, egg survived work again and looks very nice. it also survived the night. the rest of the eggs are looking good and maintaing a better temp. i candled the one im keeping on me and as i checked i see the perfect circle and even a small dark spot in the middle! i dont know if its a heart forming or what but it looks like healthy development from the pictures i have compared it to!

actually i had to move the rest of the eggs out of the incubator. it was too dangerous with temp in the incubator i got. im now carrying 2 and my mom is carrying 2. sadly i think my 3 in incubator may not be doing so well. but im hoping that in my bra they will do better like the one already there. i may end up taking care of 4 in my bra!

well it seems that i had 3 duds. they never developed. but to no surprise. the eggs wee a bit deformed. the one im carrying is developing though. i got a new incubator or my soon to be here chicks. i may just scrap this egg and try again when i order a new batch. my seller offered me 3 free ones with my next order so all is not too bad. but i will be doing this again. when my control for the experiment and the Independent are all or most are fertile. it kinda ruins my experiment when my control group was dead.

So sorry you had so many duds maybe next time you will have better luck ..........
