Brace yourselves, feed prices are going to rise!!!!

Making your own feed may help if you can get the right balance of ingredients to keep them happy and healthy... the problem here is the increase in these base grains you'd have to be buying anyways... I haven't bought feed in 3 months... and its due time for another feed run.... it's going to hurt isn't it... I though it was bad last time...

For a bag of feed here its $10.00. I have to pick up layer and more start and grow before it rises higher. Boy do I wish it was spring time so they can free range and I could grow veggies. Got to wait a few more months though

pips&peeps :

I was just informed that all Purina products were going up $3-$8 per bag here in eastern WA. Chick start is expected to get up to $26-$28 per bag this season.

Laying pellets are already $13.89 for a 50lb bag. I called some of the big egg producers on the west side of the state last summer and they said they mill their own food because it is way cheaper.

My egg prices and chick/chicken prices will have to go up a couple dollars each if this doesn't slow down.

And to think people thought $3 per chick for a purebred quality farm raised chick was too much last year.....

Wait til they go to the store to buy a loaf of bread for around $5........

Who told you that? Just curious!

I rather hear it from the source then the people at the feed store. When I go to gamestop and get a game the guy says its good and getting sold out. Yet I look online and the game is going for $5.00 and the reviews are bad. Yet I would still stock up just in case

An outside sales guy at Aslin Finch and a another guy at a local Cenex Feed Store.

Shot...they normally know what is going on. Ive been lucky if you would call it that. Ive been paying 13.30 for flock raiser and 12.45 for start and grow. If it gos up that much people are going to have a huge bill at the grocery store.

The Purina Mill here will not sell bagged food to us locals, even if we buy in large quanities like by the ton. The Aslin Finch Store basically has a monopoly on the Purina Products, they have bought out all the small feed stores.

Purina did say that if I get a silo they will sell to me. Like I need a freakin silo...... Basically they won't give me a price.

I am considering becoming a wholesaler for feed to get good prices.

I'll report back from cenex out here near the water with my feed bill.... might as well get turkey feed, scratch, chick starter, and layer.. and have them laugh while loading 5 bags in the trunk, and one in the passenger seat...

Im lucky because I can travel to the coast and buy if I dont like the prices here. I found a grain mill in Tacoma that sells 80lb bags of 21% grower/broiler for 15.49. If I bought it by the ton it would be worth my trip. I dont have enough chickens to eat the ton before it goes bad.

My Purina dealer said they would give me a dollar of of a bag if I bought buy the ton also, I'll see if I can talk him down more after I build up my flock. Or go the route of being a wholesaler too.
