Brahma Breeders thread

Are Brahmas typically slow growers? I go some in March 2013 and they didn't begin laying till early 2014.

Ok, thanks. Because Brahmas are big-bodied, is it too hot in FL for them?
There are lots of folks in Florida that have them. Just like with any chickens, you need to take care when it is hot...put a sprinkler in the run, make sure that they have fresh water, provide shade. Some feed them frozen watermelon. If you look at the brahmalot thread, Sjisty lives in Florida and you can see what she does to keep her brahmas comfortable. Besides, that thread is tremendously entertaining. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...rending-story-of-brahmalot/1870#post_14835836

Generally, we use this thread for specific breeding questions and comments, there is a backyard brahmas thread where you will be able to meet people with brahmas from Florida and be able to ask more general questions about raising brahmas. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/734972/backyard-brahmas/3470#post_14913965

Not that you aren't welcome here, but most of us that use this thread are working toward the SOP or additional varieties, so we are less likely to answer your questions than the backyard thread will be.

I've always considered tail set an inherited trait pretty much set from the start. That being said, there may be slight variation, maybe slightly higher when excited, maybe slightly lower when feeling poorly.
