I got this Light Brahma from the pullet bin at TSC, along with a Sapphire Gem. This Brahma is nearly double the size of the SG, but I wasn't concerned because I knew Brahmas were big. But now, at about 8.5 weeks, I'm seeing some redness in the comb, and already seeing wattle growth. Should I be concerned that this is a cockerel? The tail feathers still look like a pullet to me, but I'm no expert and I know that can change.

Thank you!

That's a cockerel, too much comb and wattle development for a pullet.
Also, male specific feathering doesn't usually come in till around 12 weeks old.

Aw, I'm so sorry. :(:hugs

In my opinion, no, I'm certain its a male. But you could wait longer just to be sure.
Gosh, this is so disappointing!!! I don't want to give this chicken away, but I suppose I will have to. It is such a sweet and beautiful bird.

I've always wanted a white chicken, and this is my third attempt at having one. The first two were killed by a hawk last year. Then I get this one and it turns out to be male. I will never have my white chicken 😔

I completely understand, I've gotten chicks that were supposed to be pullets and they weren't, and we had to cull them as I couldn't have multiple roosters. I hope you can find him a good home.

I'm so sorry. Have you though about started pullets? Then you wouldn't have to worry about getting a cockerel.

Thank you for your help, by the way!

Yes, we actually set out to get hens from the local farm animal rescue. That's how we started our flock years ago. Usually they have a ton of hens, but they didn't have any this time! I was in contact with them back and forth for weeks. I couldn't find started pullets anywhere, so when I went to TSC to pick up some meat chicks, they had Brahmas and Sapphire Jewels so I grabbed one of each. Bad luck all around :( I guess next time I'll either have to be more patient, or only choose auto-sexing chicks.

Of course, you're most welcome!

That's disappointing, maybe try looking around for more farms or people needing to rehome. Again I'm so sorry for everything that hasn't gone well! I hope you can find what you want soon.
