Brahma or???

It depends on how big the wattles/cob the parent stock had.

Honetly with this bird, you can tell by the coloring, a hen will not have that color pattern, as you can see in the pictures. Some colors the roosters and hens will be the same, and others will be different. At 3-4 months old, pointed feathers will start coming in on his saddle(back) and hackle(neck), all roosters have these, unless they are hen-feathered(like Sebrights).

Makes sense! She agrees that he actually does look like a dark Brahma roo. That was my first guess from the beginning, but of course the gender was in question. I actually had a turkey tom that was later maturing than my others. The day after I swore up and down he was actually a she, he showed me wrong and grew the reddest wattles and comb overnight. He was still my smallest though, but dressed to almost 30 pounds so he wasn't too much of a runt. ;) Thanks!

LOL! Thanks for posting my pic Kayella! You beat me to it.

You guys are right - it does look like a Brahma roo - he doesn't crow yet - all of his other siblings have been crowing for about a month. This bird is larger and heavier than my 1.5 year old Speckled Sussex roo. Going to be a big boy.

He's probly low mann on the totem pole, evidence by the feather plucking and non rooster behavior. Brahmas are usually calm birds, and can mature slow because they are huge. If he was the only rooster in the pen, you would see him act more roostery.

hatcheries nearly always dont stick to the standard but that is a dark brahma. Just very "poor" quality. But it really doesn't look like a male to me... but just the colouring really says male
