OK, my rooster's offspring have made me question a possibility. I got a young Dark Brahma rooster last year from a woman that had to many roosters. His flock currently consists of 3 Dark Brahma hens and a Sapphire Gem hen(I'm working on increasing the flock, but he's very gentle with his ladies). I have hatched a couple batches of eggs from this flock now. Some of them are solid black or gray in color, which I know are from the Sapphire gem. But what has puzzled me is some of his pure Brahma chicks. Of the first chicks I hatched, I had 2 that were typical Dark Brahma coloring. The other 13 were more black and white coloring, even the pullets. The second set of chicks were mostly typical coloring, but a couple of them were also more black and white. So y'all think he may have some mixture of light and dark in him? Or what is this coloring from?

Your rooster is a light Brahma

The rooster isn’t a dark Brahma. If he’s produced dark Brahma chicks he’s a dark x light color cross.
That was what I was thinking, but the hens are definite Dark Brahma so I'm leaning towards him being full light. I'm still learning the full scope of the genetic side of breeding, but I'm thinking the chicks' coloring is a matter of which color gene they receive. Do you know which might be the dominant gene?

Both colorations are a combination of genes, so it isn’t as simple as one being dominant and one being recessive. However, dark (partridge/penciling) tends to disappear when crossed with another coloring. Your rooster is either a light Brahma or a light x dark Brahma.
