Depending on the line your birds are out of, the hatchery types will mature earlier at a smaller finished size. Show type stock later and much larger.

Here are my 2 Lts and 1 Dark I got from a breeder here on BYC. They hatched on 4/30 so they are 13 weeks old and larger then most all of my other birds (my oldest of them are 20 weeks).

Sarah and Gweneth are a bit shy. They are in their bratty teenage phase

Definitely hatchery, but she is still bigger than everyone else

and just starting to show signs of maturity (doesn't help that she has been inside for 3 weeks due to leg injuries

).

I have heard that the larger birds need short roosts since they tend to hurt themselves getting off of higher roosts. Do you all see that in the Brahmas? I am almost positive that is what happened with Montana. One day I went to let them out of their house and she was laying on the floor not moving. I found bruises on her legs and her right knee was swollen. She is SLOWLY getting better and is starting to walk up on her feet again. I feel so bad and we will be changing the roost levels before she is back in the hen house.

My brahmas started to lay around 6 1/2 months.

Mine waitted the whole 8 months, and even after laying for 9 months now are still kind of slacky on the laying end. I think of them as my "medium" layers.

I lowered all my roost for my LF birds. I have Lavender Orps also. the highest is 3' down to 1' one of my brahmas hurt her leg jumping down from the roost at 4' so lowered them all. My brahmas usually lay everyday, but today I only had 2 B eggs out of my 4 girls, It's been awfully hot.

Hi SerentyNH. Looking at your most recent pics I would say both are pullets. Their saddle feathers are rounded and would be pointy if they were male.

I think you are good. So does this mean you don't want to go get more pullets with me this weekend

Heading out for some Bantam Buff Brahmas and GLW's. Let me know if you want some
