I've read conflicting answers to this. At what approximate age do brahmas stop growing? Factoring in leap year of course. My girls are about 1 year. I have one Lt. that is still in that doofy, my feet are too big for my body, stage (which I find udderly adorable:) ). She's too funny when she runs! Wondering if she's still growing into her body or if that's just the way she is. I have heard they can take 2 years to top the scales.

Nikki816 don't be put off by our general smartassedness there. Just having some fun, which actually is a step in the right direction for Tim, he ussually tends to down shift into grumpy old fart mode.

I see you are from New Holland. Spent about 6 years in that general area myself, almost 30 years ago. In fact my wife is from Washington Court House. Used to hunt ducks off Egypt Pike just a little north of town there.

Anyway I see you are new here, feel free to come back and learn. We'll try to play it straight, for the most part.
Well....I could argue the "old" part at least, I'm only 48. BTW I love to shoot ducks.

Well my boys have varied a lot as to when they crow. Several have been inhibited by three gigantic roosters who are already in residence.

The majority of mine have been well over 6 months. This contrasts very sharply with the young upstart of an 8 week old Brahma X La Flèche who was crowing in our agricultural shed a few days ago. There again, he does have a 'crown' on his head as a result of the 'horns' of the La Flèche with the pea comb of the Brahma....so he probably thinks he is royalty....he hasn't met the Triad or do I mean trio yet.

lol, I thought since they were slow growers that he would crow late....but i guess he didn't get the memo. He has already started trying to chase the hens, but they want nothing to do with him yet.
I guess I'll have to get nest boxes ready early just in case the hens decided to lay early too

Big Medicine, i'm glad someone knows where New holland is :) we live right in town across from the methodist church on US22

My 16 week old cockerel has not crowed yet. He's getting huge, though - has to duck to get in the pop door. I hope he's still going to fit when he's full grown. We had to add a step for him to get up on the roost, too, as he's already getting heavy enough that leaping up is difficult.

As for my two 1 year olds, one of them is broody - AGAIN. This is the third time since April that she's gone broody (rotating with the two Orpingtons). I have no more room for chicks and it is WAY too hot to let her spend a month in the nest box, so we've been moving the broody hen to a stall with minimal shavings, food and water. They spend the day alone and go back to the coop at night. It usually takes about 3 days to break them. It's annoying, though. I'm going to go nuts if the other 1 year old starts and then next year have to deal with the 4 youngsters constantly going broody!

I have a 9 week old Light Bantam Brahma he crowed for the first time this morning.....I think I will have to rehome him since I have two other roosters already. 1 silkie roo, 1 yr old and 1 EE roo, 14 weeks old. the Light Bantam Brahma is my avatar pic, he was 2 weeks when it was taken
