Thanks! It's looking like I have four guys and five girls. That suits me just fine! I'll choose the cockerel I like most and whose temperament I want to carry on. The others I'm sure I won't have a difficult time placing a beautiful as they are going to be :)

Today I had another batch of chicks hatch. There was the fattest little chicken in there. I don't even know how he fit inside the egg! I'm going to take a picture tomorrow comparing him to his hatch mates.

I started out with black Brahmas, bred to my blue partridge and got this -

and this -

I bred the blacks back to the roo above and from one black hen I'm getting -

and -

and -

The other black hen is still producing blues and blacks -

Hi all - I posted this question on a separate thread but it was suggested that I should pose it here to get answers from bantam owners.

We are looking at adding Bantam Brahmas to our tiny flock but concerned if all the usual "bantam rules" apply to Brahmas. Are they flighty? Will they be tempted to scale a 4 ft fence (or jump the 6 ft fence into the neighbor's yard)? Would trimming the wings be enough to discourage this?

Fencing is our biggest concern but also wondering if they lay like the standard Brahmas - just smaller? (2-3 per week?)

My bantam buff Brahmas are very calm, don't fly high and are super layers! They out lay my large fowl

I just realized you are in Sacramento! I am in Grass Valley and happen to have some bantam buff Brahmas for sale. You can see my ad on BYC's Buy~Sell~Trade auction site under chickens 8 weeks and older. I also have some 8 week old chicks not listed.

What beautiful birds! So you feel that the 4 ft fence would be high enough? We're finishing up our chicken yard and I wanted to adjust things while we still have all the tools out. How often do your girls lay? Are you reducing your brahmas or getting rid of all of them? I was looking to add this breed next spring but gosh they good looking girls. Would you have any then?

I have 4 brahma chicks that I think are just shy of 3 weeks old. Got them from the local IFA. I think my small little dark brahma may be a male. It is feathering slower and has no tail yet. Maybe it was just hatched later- I don't know what do you think?

Here they are at 4wks on June 8th

Almost no tail on the left one still

I still can't tell these two apart

Here is our new coop my hubby and father have been working on for a few months. We have a tractor but I am tired of the winter when I couldn't clean it properly with everything frozen to the ground to they are making a walk in coop and run. I can't wait!
