Remind me again why I do this.

Cleaned out both coops yesterday, hauled I don't know how many hand cart loads of manure back to the compost pile. The large Garden Way two wheel cart is probably one of the handiest pieces of equipment I own, but when loaded to the gills, and pulling over frozen ground with the top inch or two thawed into a nice greasy, clingy, quagmire, it incorperates elements of ice skating, skying, balance beam, power lifting, horse pulling(minus the horse), and probably a few more that slip my mind. At least that's what my muscles are telling me today.

I have 900 pounds of feed I just got to unload. And the NPIP lady will be here later this afternoon. Meaning we will be catching and testing most of the birds on the place.

Well I am done eating a late lunch, time to hit it, but remind me again why we do this.
I didn't have it so bad today. Just cleaned out 3 brooders, wing banded about 50 chicks, culled a couple with faults, scrubbed feeders, waterers, toe punched other chicks..... I was questioning my sanity when I was done.

I swear you have the most gorgeous birds! I wish I could afford some better birds, but I can't pay RBA prices and pay the house note. :(
You don't have to pay RBA prices to have better birds. It costs the same to feed good birds as it does to feed crappy ones. Your choice.

because we love our birds...i think of the birds as manure factories, the birds and eggs are a byproduct...lol

Well feed is all stowed away. Good thing I got it today instead of trying to stretch it till Monday, judging by tonights weather forecast.

Birds are tested, all good on the blood smears, throat swaps on way to lab. Got to love Brahmas, rattle the scoop, drop a little scratch, and just pick up the next bird. That is untill It was time for the guineas.

I have a silly question. Are light chicks suppose to be yellow or grey. Mine I bought this year where yellow. Yet I see people with Light Brahma chicks and they are grey! Sort of confused.

? Brahma chicks are mostly grey, with a bit of yellow on their bellies. You SURE you have brahmas? (Assuming you mean yellow as in leghorn-chick yellow, not like a gray-ish yellow, then it MIGHT be a LB)

This is probably a dumb question, sorry. What is toe punched?

Never mind, I just looked it up on the Learning Center. Should have done that first. So now my question is this; Does that hurt them?
