One of my darks, from a breeder not a hatchery, has webbing between the outside toes. I thought it was matted feathers at first, but it is actual webbing. Is this genetic? If so, I obviously won't breed him, but what about the others? Would they carry it as a recessive?

Hey all! i have a mystery chick that i am trying to figure out if i am keeping of if he is just an extra - he is out of a male dark brahma and a female black cochin. He is extended black per the chicken calculatior and is very handsome even at 3 wrrks, with metallic green feathers, and a pea comb. Would it be worth it yo keep him and breed him back to my dark brahma females? or have i lost the silver partridge color?

My guess is he will end up mostly black, but as he matures he will likely show some color in hackles, saddle, and maybe shoulders.

Another thing to consider is he is likely carrying the genetics for vulture hocks, courtesy of the Cochin side of the family.

He also will be split for pea/single comb.

Color wise, not sure how hard it would be to get the penciling back right. I wouldn't use him, brings too many undesirables to the mix.

I have seen this in both Cochins and Bantam Brahmas. It is not desirable. I can't tell you if it is dominant or recessive because I had it happen in chicks from eggs I bought, and I culled them.

This is a LF Brahma. Of the ones you kept, did any of them have chicks with the webbing in future matings? I've heard that it could be an issue within the egg as the chick is developing.

Read my post again. They were not kept. They were culled. From what I was told by an old time Cochin breeder, it IS inherited.

Maybe if I'm lucky I will get to compete with my self on the Brahmas. Last year I just went to go and there was only one in the junior and one in the open. I also will bring two Leghorns and a white non bearded silkie.
