"Cull" can mean to not use a bird for breeding. In a more extreme sense, it can mean to make a tasty pot of chicken dumplings.

9 of my 10 Brahma chicks I got 2 weeks ago seem to be doing fine. Except for that one chick. I have no clue what is wrong. it eats and moves about. doesn't look in pain. It uses his wings to move about. Idno a friend of mine who used to have chickens says I should get rid of it in case its a contagious decease. Idno i can't just get rid of a chick like that. Any suggestions?

Depends on what one's goals are. Brahmabreeder is an breeder/exhibitor. In that endeavor, culling is required.

I dont breed brahmas, but I do breed other breeds. And as much as I love chickens. I think culling is nessecary. It is important to have good quality stock that meets the standard. Not just throw anything in your breeding pen. And not everyone has a layer flock or keeps chickens as pets. Of course if you happen to find someone that wants it that is great, but you arent going to find a home for every chicken you are going to cull. When breeding culling is something you (IMO) have to do, in order to continue to improve the breed.

How old do you figure the chick is ? Did it come this way ? If not, what was the progression of symptoms ?

As to culling. Given the looks and temperment of Brahmas, I have never had a problem moving females that did not make the grade.

I should add as back yard layers. I try to point out to the prospective buyer why each bird did not make the cut. Be it various physical features, (or maybe lack there of ), color, or pattern. You might as well be talking another language to most folks, all they care about is that it won't affect how they lay, and darn they're pretty, but I feel better.

The chick is about 2 and a half weeks. It was fine at first. It was one of the most active chick. one morning it just lay there in a corner. I came back to see it in the same spot. I separated him from the others but it kept calling for his buddies. I put him back. He eats and drinks water. He moves about using the wings as support. Not sure if it has an injured leg. I checked and the leg looks fine externally. Its been 3 days so far. idno what to do about it.
