Hey all I got the last test results back from my brahmas and have some bad news
for my half its probably going to be better in the long run for me but i do want anyone new to please look into this issue the last tests have been positive for Mycoplasma Galliseptcun < spelling ?

according too the Lab this is a type a Virus and to protect my African grey Parrot and to protect myself and other birds the best deal is to cull off all my birds the suggested i do this asap as it is a Very Bad Form of Upper Respatory Disease .

according to what i have read and been told there are other options but the birds will always be carriers ,. Using Baytril on my birds in the beginning for this the vet made it to where i should Never eat the eggs from my birds ., today i walked out to see one of my Tom turkeys with a Swollen Head around the eyes . there really is no Cure for this disease .

I will how ever disenfect the whole area as i had planned when i thought i had LT and no hope until i learned that for that and UR there is hope except for a few certain strains this being one of the worst and more dangerous for my african gray Parrot. she should nto have to have me take chances with her well being ,.

Now that being said i will get back into the Dark Brahmas when i am sure i have a safe enviorment for them again being more careful .

Part of this the biggest part is when i called the guy that sold me my origional birds telling me many times he has never had issues tell me now he treats his Birds 2 times a week and feeds Chick starter Ab to kill off the disease . to me this only Hides the symptoms , Tammy

I am sorry. I am going through mental gymnastics There was a lot written about virus shelf life when HIV and AIDS was headlines 20 or 30 years ago. You might be OK with just leaving your coop empty (virus or bacteria). One will have a short shelf life the other needs disinfecting.

Lots of good info on this and other diseases on the APA website. This is basically CRD(chronic respiritory disease), which is fairly common in poultry. De-pop if you want. Still may be a bit overkill in my opinion. I suppose if you are worried about your parrot you might just forget about chickens. Aren't they very expensive?(parrots I mean)

i am sorry too tammy. And how long do these parrots live ?!?
longest recorded is 75 i think, i know amazons can live to well over a hundred if taken care of and no sickness, i know i will have to have a back up person to take mine so that if something happens to me the birds will be safe, i inherited a 30 something amazon when a friend died, believe it or not, biddy(amazon) grieved for him for about a month

Greys Live a Long life ours is been with me for 15 yrs she is my baby and actually holds a conversation well Does not mimic but then again we do not let her hear cuss words .

Tim Yes the parrots are very exspensive and cheaper to feed .

Figaro is a bratt bird and tells on my roommate but tells him to be good when we argue LOL its so funny she once told him to mind his mannors . he told her she was a Poop Bird but it started with a S

its fun having her and i think if i get the healthy birds to start with i will be OK .

this is not easy but at the same time the vet ruined them for eggs , eating and Hatching the Batril is bad news in birds i did not know but the lab told me i should of never used it as the eggs shouldnt be eaten in any bird that has had batril.

reminds me i need to slap a vet , anyway i may be moving to my parents ranch soon and if thats the case might be much better i am trading my mom my home for 40 acres .

better water and space so i can keep the juniors and senior birds seperated and also have my turkeys in another area 5 acres for all to roam i think they will be happier i know i will with otu the stress of my parrot getting sick , Tim if you message me advice i am Listening . But i can nto treat my parrot the same as i can my chickens . Parrots are pets chickens live stock but in my eyes i do love them all. this really is not easy . friends sent me links to learn from and im gonna share them
