So I decided to keep the blue rooster as he has the most dark feathers in his saddle and his wings are a bit darker than the other three. It might be slow but we are going to try and breed for the color and back conformation that we want to see by keeping the girls that meet as close to the standard as we can get and then getting a rooster in a few years to put over the top of them who is more towards the standard than the ones I have right now.

You would spend WAY less money if you went ahead and invested in a couple of pairs of quality birds. It will take you years IF you ever get there. There are too many good birds out there to try and breed up from obviously inferior birds. Please don't be offended...just being honest and trying to save you a lot of time and money......IF your goal REALLY is standard bred birds.

x3

Especially in a fairly popular exhibition breed like the Brahma, there's just no reason to go through the years and dollars trying to make good from bad.

Here are some pics of birds that I bought from Mark Peterson...Grand Master APA Exhibitor.

Couple pullets and a cockerel....

And another...

He is simply the best for brahmas !

Id say TIM is Correct but do make sure the birds you get for genetic Diversity are healthy,

i had a Awesome Quad of dark brahmas and got more chicks unfortunatly they had MG or Mycroplasma Gallicepticum look it up and im still looking for someone who does not have that disease no one has answered my question if they tested for it or not here so pretty sad for the Brahmas lites ,buffs and darks , ...

MG or Mycroplasma Gallicepticum: Had to look this one up, never heard it called this.

Q:
Is this somthing that runs in specific breeds or randomly through chickens in general.

MG is found in wild birds which can give it to your chickens. It is not breed specific.
