I'll post more updated pics of my light Brahma. Trixie is almost 8 weeks and is now showing more red on her/his face. I also noticed that the two of my 7 chickens that I'm now thinking are roosters will on occassion perch, stretch out their necks and open their beaks wide, but no sound. Kinda looks like they want to crow. Anyone else seen anything like this?

OK. Here are more pics of Trixie, almost 8 weeks old. What so you think? Rooster or Hen?

Thats a tough one. It certainly looks like a hen through the face, but the onle ones of mine that didn't have a fully feathered tail by 8 weeks of age, were roos. If I had to guess one way or another it would be hen.

By the way Highlander, that is a absolutely beatiful bird you have there. If you get tired of him one day, send him my way, lol

Sorry!

Is that not a colour that you have much of over there?

Nope...can definitely say that's not a color we see in the US. I do so love it though...and Joachim has this AWESOME mille fleur starting up in his flock....to DIE for!

I'm with vortec on this one. I want to say pullet, my roo had much more comb and wattles at that age but the tail is messing me up.

I'm so glad I read this! I have a chick just like these--even the feathers that are coming out look exactly like these. I have been trying to figure out since we got him what breed he was. Now I believe I have a dark brahma. Mine is not very friendly, either. He already has a VERY red comb and wattles, so I am pretty sure mine is a roo. This means I won't be able to keep him.

I would rather keep a couple of my much friendlier cochin roos.

Highlander, that roo is gorgeous. And to whoever posted those adorable chicks with the farm playset. Well they are just precious.
