No Illia it is not fowl visions its Brahmachickenlady Remember you said there was a very good breeder in FLorida well thats her. I told her I knew someone on the west coast who wanted brahmas from her but she wont ship at all. I am hoping when funds allow to purchase some more hens from her. Unfortunately she sold off her partridge birds before I knew about them. I did see some of her culls that she ws selling as layers and they were so beautiful I can just imagine how beautiful her show birds were.

I saw them and I would have taken them, except I just bought a Show Quad from Susan and I got two Partridge Hens from her. My roo comes home in a few weeks!

I have six of Susan's partridge hens and her last cockerel. She does have beautiful birds!

This is little Danny Partridge!

Does anyone know where would be close to VA to get some Brahma's? I'm mainly interested in Buff's or maybe some laced. Right now I'm considering ordering from McMurry's but I'm sure it would be more than 1 day shipping to where I live. Also is there any special coop considerations I need to make for these larger birds?

No, I don't think there's anything different you need to do with them.

And if you're considering big and beautiful Brahmas like shown in a lot of photos, Murray McMurray will not offer that. Trust me. I have some hens from them, and first, they're 4-5 pounds underweight. Second, they're the same size as the rest of my hatchery birds. Third, they don't have the color nor the beautiful hooded eyes that true, good quality Brahmas have.

Sjisty - Still waiting for some eggs from your beauties.

No hatcheries do.

Hatcheries breed for egg production, so in a lot of breeds that means sacrificing a lot of traits.

As for locals near your area, I'm not sure. I don't even know that many Brahma breeders, however, you could contact the American Brahma Club president and ask him. He's VERY helpful and friendly.

Thanks. I just put an add on Craigslist, maybe a local person will have some. Keeping my fingers crossed I can get my hands on some.

It's worth the wait to do some research and get some good birds from an experienced breeder. I have half a coop full of non-show birds that I got from various places before I started buying from breeders. Except for one bird, I haven't been sorry for the wait!
