Dan that's awesome advice, one of my cockerels have just started crowing at 7 months! The girls are clearly not interested in laying or to have anything to do with this silly boy! I'm going to try to get pics of the incredibly lovely flock I have from you. Lacing is just gorgeous on them

Down the road with only 4 hens I should cull down to probably just one rooster and it's so nice to know you are available to help with this passion! thanks for sharing your knowledge

What in the world is a vulture hock and what does it look like?

This is a vulture hock - check out the "elbows" of this chick. Vulture hocks are the severely long feathers growing out above the hocks.

Fat healthy happy Brahma babies! I had such a great hatch.. I am trying to find homes for some of them but I want to select the best possible babies to stay with me. At 2 weeks old I am mostly looking for signs of male/female but now I have a few other things to look for

I will continue to post pics of them so you guys can help me decide which ones to keep and which ones to sell.

What are the first and earliest signs for gender?

Thanks it helps alot! I was going to make dinner out of a few of the roosters but now will wait. I have only the best birds in the breeding pen but I think I will add a light one in the mix too.

I, too, have some wonderful newly hatched chicks from Fowl Visions. They are beautiful and I can't wait to watch them grow. Mine are more for beauty for my free range flock but DH loves the looks of a roo so I plan to keep one since my other boys need to go into breeding pens.
Can't have too many Brahmas!

Has anyone crossed a buff with a dark? What coloration did you get?

Hi Nadine - we did that (CROSSED BUFF X DARK) once and got LIGHTS! lol Badly colored lights, but lights just the same.
