That's not "partridge" you're seeing, that's a cockerel carrying both gold and silver genes. Dark Brahmas technically ARE partridge, just a silver version.

They look okay but the adult male has some droopy wing carriage and too low of a tail angle. He looks a little more like a Rock than a Brahma in type.

It may actually just be juvenile feathering that disappears, really. But so far it looks like a "golden" color.

If you have any Buff or Partridge parents around that would explain it.

Just for some more Brahma chat; here is the same adult roo @ 14 weeks; do they just get fat and lazy in the wing posture? He seems to have had a much better stance when he was younger. Note the bronze coloring there...

And now you can find the same coloring in just a few feathers, @ 18 months

I wasn't put off by his Type...actually (not sure where you got the Dark Roo) but his coloring looks to be nice. I like his comb my biggest issue is his head...I'm a bit of a head snob...He needs much more "brow". The red in the black on a young cockeral is normal. I typically find a correlation between red color and lack of good pigment in the adult color. I typically cull birds with too much red as it may indicate predispotition for brassiness later on...

Please don't pull punches; thank you. Can you elaborate on the "brow"? You mean the feathering above the eye and below the comb?

To my way of thinking brow is an extension of skull and flesh protruding over the eye, adding to the overall look of a wide skull that a good Brahmas should posses in both sexes.

And what about my permabroody, Mrs Grey......? If she doesn't look that great she is the most broody hen ever....at just under two years of age she has hatched 7 clutches.

This young guy, Artemis, is, I think a cross between a Blue Partridge and a Dark.

Got ya on the brows. I recently found and old version of a poultry standard specifically for Plymouth Rocks; it was very detailed and had lots of good and bad examples. Is there anything like this for the Brahmas, new or old, free online preferably but ok if not. Thanks for your information.

The "Brow to me makes the beak have what dog people call a "Stop" a two piece head or what brahma people call a "Beetle Brow" Like on this Dark hen of mine....

The head should also have a shorter beak..
