I can't see paying 100 + dollars for 1 chick. no way! I also can't see paying 300+ dollars for a dozen eggs that you have to trust USPS and the seller's packaging methods to get them in decent shape to you. But thats just me! call me a cheap-skate

Ok...cheapskate!

. I see and hear your point..I said that a few years ago..Now that I have what I have I know what it takes and how much it costs to raise these birds...Think about it...pay 400$ for a breeding pair....collect and incubate all eggs laid...hatch house, feed, and grow out all chicks for 4-6 Months or even longer only to select some if any for new breeders to add...after a year..how much money did it cost you to wind up with only a few birds? A lot...you can sell the rest or cull to try and make up extra $ for coverage in expenses, time, and energy. You'll never break even...Would I feel guilty charging someone 3-400$ for a breeding pair or trio? Nope not a chance...especially if I took the time to weed out the faults...I just cut years out of what you would need to do that's all...that's what your paying for

lmao. I don't have a problem paying that kind of money for a good breeding pair or trio, but I have a problem paying 100$ for a DAY OLD chick that is coming to me through USPS or 300$ for eggs that are coming through USPS and I have to trust the seller's honesty, their packaging, and the USPS's oh so tender care (yes that was said in a very sarcastic voice

) ... I am working on getting my foundation flock of birds started, and no it isn't cheap, but I am buying good adult birds and spending a bit of spare money on eggs, but I know the gamble with shipped eggs and am not a big gambler

I have no issue with charging or paying 100-300$ for a good exhibition pair of birds, but I can't see paying 500$ for half a dozen day old chicks that I've got no idea how they're going to grow out, what sex they are, nor if they'll even make it to me or make it to teenagers or adult-hood.

Your right...I hear yah...I haven't sold eggs nor have I sold day olds...just heavy culling and processing for me So far....but personally I'd be real nervous shipping eggs that cost 500$+..... shoot...if it weren't a whole day of driving I'd consider doing a road trip to deliver! Lol

Here's my roo a few months back.....looking a bit worse for wear as he is in the moult .

Is anyone breeding for blue patridge in the US? I want some buff laced but I am having to wait until I can afford them.times are tough here.I have been lucky to fiddle with the birds I have. Lately I can't get out of the grocery store for less than $ 200. and that cuts into my chicken fund, lol.

I will be selling eggs in the spring. I can't guarantee all blue partridges, though. I will also have chicks, but I don't ship. I actually (with a little help from a couple of broodies) have hatched eight chicks as of this morning.

Congrats...I have SLB's going under a broody SLB tonight...I always set eggs on a Friday to hatch on a Friday so I have all weekend to watch for them, just in case I need to rescue them or its way too cold...My big girl has been hunkered down for a week now-I felt so bad plucking the eggs out from under her all week...She'll be thrilled when I give them all back tonight. Have to build her a brooder pen within the big pen though when I get home from work! I originally was giving her 12-14 eggs but last time I did that all got broken:( So I think I'll slip 5 SLB eggs in and 1 project Brahama egg...just to see what the chicks look like-2 if a second egg gets laid before bedtime tonight!)
