Light Brahma chicks are fairly dark when they are that age. Mine have lightened up over the last few weeks, showing more white and less black. Your chicks look great.

Is there a reason my buff brahma chicks look like lights?

Both chicks are siblings and their other three siblings are much darker.
Yes,"Brahmabreeder" they are just poor quality. They don't really look like quality lights for that matter. They will be under-marked/colored as adults. The males will not have enough black in saddles and hackles. If you search back through this thread there are photos of well marked light and buff chicks.

Thank you guys I have noticed that I have a nice variety of colors in my chicks but these two are by far the lightest. My avatar chick also hatched from the same parents and the same day. Now when you people "match" up your breeders how do you guys determine who goes with who. I think mine will be bred in trios. Again thank you guys for all the help so far.

I breed extremes. In other words I will breed an over colored bird to an undercolored one. I'll breed a longer bird to an extremly wide one. you have to put the pieces together. If you mate two perfectly colored birds the offspring will tend to be undercolored. There is a definite difference between a quality show-bird and a breeder. Someimes showbirds can be used as breeders, conversley breeder birds are seldom good showbirds. I am talking about Lights and Buffs. When i say over-colored I mean a bird with too much black, and under-colored too little black. You should get a standard and go to as many shows as you can and see good birds and talk to the people who bred them.

P.S. If you click on my name above my avatar you can see tons of photos of my birds in my profile.

Okay so as far as color is concerned I should take one of the really light colored birds up there that I posted and breed it to a bird with too much black? I think I understand you.

I wish I had buff laced brahmas

Lets hope all goes well for you. We all know how stressful it can be.

Hi there,

Ive been noticing one of my Brahma chicks is much smaller than the others, seems like she is not growing well. Although acts fine, eats good and none of the others pick on her. I got her out and fused with her tonight and found something. I found a large fluid filled pocket / lump on her chest!!! I looked for a wound, old or fresh and found nothing... Any ideas? And what I should do about it..? Are there antibiotics, should I break it open? Help
