Brahma Thread

I wanted to show off the Blue/Gold Partridge Brahmas I just acquired. They are Dan Powell creation and at this moment can't speak to how they will breed. I'm hoping they will kick into gear and start laying consistently. I'll get more pics this weekend.

The big guy weighs in at 13.2 lbs and the girls at 10 lbs. He's a bit short for my liking and the blue hen's feathering needs some work, but overall I think it might be a good start. Critiques welcome

Very pretty.

Over here (and I'm sure that it'll be true for the States, too), Blue Partridge Brahma don't breed true.

Blue Partridge X Blue Partridge will give 50% Blue Partridge, 25% Gold and 25% Splash aka Red Pyle.

Lovely birds, though.

Here's my rooster (with others)

He's a very gentle boy, though he's alpha male of this small group.

Yes that is true, What I really meant is that they breed true to that formula....and if you get tired of that gorgeous boy you can send him to me!!!

Which gorgeous boy.....Twp (Welsh for stupid..... so named as he always got lost at night as a chick) the Blue Partridge Brahma, or Jared the appallingly dirty Border Collie? Only joking.

Twp is a real sweetie......just got over bumble foot, and put up with regular minor surgery for a number of days and breast injections without any sign of aggression (sunflower seeds and cheese after each 'attack') . He has spurs about an inch long, but never uses them...his crow is so loud.

I went to the swap in Pierpont but there were again no brahmas. The only ones there were Ron's birds and he didn't want me to have them. He said they were poor quality but he will be selling me hens in a month or two. The only birds I got were hopefully two silkie pullets to hatch eggs for me and 12 seramas for the fun of it.

Tim do you have any contact info. for Mark Petersen? The Aldriches have not emailed me back so I can't say anything about whether or not they are even an option. I will be going to a swap in pierpont on Saturday. It kind of sounds weird but whatever. They said they will have garage sale stuff, baked goods, and pretty much every farm animal except turkeys. I will be bringing a chicken or two to sale and a few other things. I will look for any brahmas I can find. Just not getting my hopes high. I just really want a few quality light hens.

Hello! I am new here and just happened to come across this thread. My children have expressed an interest in showing, so I have also been looking for quality lt brahma LF hatching eggs that I could begin a breeding project with. Like you have been finding, I think they are all but impossible to find. I did get a reply from Aldriches. They do not sell eggs or chicks. They do take a few adult pairs to the shows they go to for selling purposes. Their adult birds are $50 and up.

I am excited to wade back through the old posts. It sounds as though there will be great genetic/ breeding advice for a new person.

I have one question ( which I will probably find in the archives). Since it is difficult to find "perfect breeding stock", what characteristics are a " must have"? I am sure some traits are easier to manipulate with breeding than others. Those traits that are difficult to breed for...I am hoping to get lucky and start with. Thanks for your advice.
