Thats my favorite Brahma picture. I think i got it somewhere back on this thread. Anyway I saved it, and thought it would make a nice avatar. Worthy goal for us all.

I think thats the bird on the Brahma Club homepage Don.

This is the picture that is in my Standard of Perfection edition of 1923. Does make a nice avatar.

And I am finding that these bantam buff Brahmas are a super hardy breed! Out of 9 shipped eggs 8 hatched in my first batch and now in my second batch 11 out of twelve shipped eggs in the incubator are growing!

After reading your other post I am keeping my fingers crossed for at least 50% pullets! I am overrun with rooster chicks at the moment

r/t roos? join the club... grrrr.

When should I start hatching season for these birds? I was thinking fall because of how long they take to mature. I would any ones opinions.
Depending on how you are situated for housing, and if you plan on showing. With your winter weather, I would think it easier to brood/raise young birds in the spring.

Last week my wife and I got our first Light Brahma chick from a local feed store. She has already fallen in love with the chick but as soon as I got home I noticed it was the only one of our new chicks that is already developing a comb. None of the other chicks show any signs of it yet but her's is definitely coming in and still yellow. Is it common for Brahmas to get theirs in early or should I prepare myself to have to break the bad news to my wife that "Shelby" might have to be shipped off to one of the local farms soon? We're both new to keeping chickens, once I get my ten posts in I'll revisit the thread with a pic of her.

Looking like it is going to be a "Brahma or Not?" post later because checking more pictures I think we got a Cochin chick. My wife said she got her out of a mixed bin of bantams and she has very furry feet and the early comb development looks similar to the Cochin pics I have been viewing on the site.

My girls had a raised area where the comb would be, but I think it's hard for inexperienced owners to tell before 8 weeks google it, but look at the feet, length of leg, and shape of feathers. I find those to be better indicators.
