I thought the same thing, but kept my mouth shut (for once).
I now have several sources of info. on brahmas...I've become obsessed with the breed. The foraging part for me doesn't really matter, but several sources do say that brahmas aren't good for it. Individuals again, I guess.
Last night I saw pics of patridge brahmas on the american brahma club's website. Wasn't feeling well so I didn't read more. I can't imagine that they are "pure breds" since that coloring had to come from some other breed, wouldn't you think? I am more interested in preserving the original breed than anything else, they are scarce; but gosh! those partridge brahmas sure were purty!

I have dark brahma girls and love them to death. They are super friendly however dont like to be touched. When I pick them up, boy do they yell as if I'm killing them but they really dont fight much, just yell. From what I have seen and heard from brahma breeders, brahmas dont do overly well with high heat and high humidity. Chickens release their heat through combs and wattles and since brahmas have very small combs, they arent the best in the heat. Cold, on the other hand, is no problem at all. Very cold tolerant.

My flock of 14 Light Brahmas does well in the heat and cold. In the summer they like to go under the blue spruce trees on the cool ground. They are wonderful foragers making feed costs all but go away during late spring through fall til the ground freezes. I only have one hen that goes broody, however she is a wonderful mom and keeps my flock going with new chicks.

My flock of Light Brahmas have never had problems with heat or cold...I have no problem with them foraging either....I've had broodies with them too.....

Yep, I guess it's like I said. Birds are individuals, just like humans, and don't always go by the book.
I'm really looking forward to getting mine in the spring. Just haven't decided what variety my roo will be...leaning towards light or dark, probably the dark. Besides the roo, I'm planning on getting 12 pullets.
