Good luck with the chicks, they're a blast!!! Always build WAY bigger than you need, cause when you get the hang of chickens you'll end up using every inch of space you have!!! (IOW: chickens are ADDICTIVE!!!) Also, be prepared for:

- lots of poop
-don't forget to make sure your chicks can't drown in their water
-more poop
-awkward looking bundles of feathers and fuzz
- Flying lessons in your house
- poop on the floor from the flying lessons in your house

LOL!!! It's so much fun, though, especially when they get big and they actually start looking and sounding like chickens!!!! Have fun!!

My chicks wait til I open the brooder and look away, then the two flyers go to work. Pretty funny to watch my trying to catch them before they hit the ground running.

Ha! I had one try to make a suicidal jump today while I was holding her. Not good. She is my Emo chicken now....

They are growing so darn fast, it kinda makes me sad, but definitely happy too that they are doing so well!

I converted an old (really old) garage that was attached to a shed. (both are like 50+ years old at least). Anyway, I had some portable dog pen panels that measured 6ft high x 10ft long. They make a nice 10x10 square, and I will eventually make them 20x10 when the rest of the fence gets put in. In the mean time, it works ok for my 8 in one pen and 10 in the other, not to mention the inside part is large....11x12 (about) for each set.

I will have a similar set up for the chicks when they get old enough to move out of the house.
