Hello! Never had chickens before, got 2 Americanas & 2 Brahman chicks this morning, was told they are a few days old. Have them in brooding cage with lamp & chick food & water with additive to prevent dehydration. One of the chicks seems to not be eating or drinking, so I picked it up and put in in front of the food. Chick sort of walked away & seemed to fall asleep. any ideas about what I should do to help it? BTW, I'm Mom to 2 sets of twins, a Sicilian husband, I'm currently homeschooling all 4 due to Virus, we have 2 chubby friendly bunnies, 3 fun standard poodles, a 4 lovable year old duck & an absolutely cherished Clydesdale mare. Thanks for letting me into your chicken community!

Hi and welcome to BYC. Right now, drinking is most important so keep an eye on the chick in question. Here are some helpful links:

I’m new to chickens but I have seen this a couple times in my chicks. I lost two but was able to save the third one.it could be many things wrong with your chick. Watch and research as best you can. But what I did with my last chick is wet the food down and put small amounts in his beak a few times every hour or so and dunked his head in water. I didn’t know what was wrong with him but I knew at least he was eating. You can buy save a chick meds from tsc and put it in their water to give them a boost Or add some sugar to their water. After a day or two of this was enough to get him to start taking care of himself. But again it could be anything so watch closely And Check the poop!
