Great advice on building bigger. Don’t buy a kit online as they are way too small despite what is advertise. You will probably end up with many more birds than you originally planned, it happens to most everyone.
Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! Yes, build bigger! Predator Proof!!!!!
Glad to meet you, PJ. If you haven't already found a coop design that suits you, try looking at this article. It's about ventilation, which is key in designing a coop and keeping birds healthy all year. But the best thing about the article is it has links to a number of coops with plans, all organized by climate, because a coop that's perfect in Arizona would be terrible for my New England birds.
And just because I am a nosy person wanting to be helpful, here is an great article for beginners (and longtimers, too) on keeping chickens.
You can find loads of helpful articles written by other members of BYC (or administrators) by using the SEARCH button, and choosing the Advanced Search. Then specify you want an article, and enter your keyword(s). You might also notice that the articles are usually also rated by other members. The ratings are great for us newbies, to help sort out the best and most useful articles. But also some reviews also included comments that add to the original article.
Best wishes from New England. Good for you, planning ahead before getting the birds!
