Bread Can Kill or hotdogs???

I'd be very cautious about giving chickens hotdogs except very rarely b/c they are absolutely LOADED with salt (as is any lunch meat), and too much salt will give them (just as it will indoor birds, too) salt toxicosis. They can tolerate a LITTLE salt, but be careful.

I have a roo that comes to the back door EVERY MORNING. I bought him for a buck (I call him dollar bill) and he does not go into the barn at night. I guess he roosts with the horses in the leanto.

I feed him ONE slice and he really takes his time eating it. The Guineas come down once a day for their fair share. So far I have not experienced any bad results. I do know that feeding bread ALONE is not a good thing. Dollar Bill gets poultry grain and he free ranges.

bread. I don't know about hotdogs as I have never tried them.

I only feed them hot dogs once and a while but i use them to get the chickens back into the coop at night because we let them run free around the yard all day when we are home. so they get lots of grass and bugs and ants and all that good stuff along with there normal feed. i have nine chickens and the best part is that when i call "here chickies chickies" the all come runing from where ever they were. it is a good thing because they like to chill by the road!

Bread grain does not expand only yeast does , uncooked bread dough would but would probably not kill them either.

They'll be fine.

Watch the hot dogs though, and don't give too many. Obesity is a real problem and will kill them.

My girls love LOVE any meat or cheese. My normally skittish RIR will bite at my fingers in an overzealous frenzy if I've been feeding them either of these things. She goes nuts - it's when you can really see their inner dinosaur come out!

cool thanks for the advice now i get to rub it in my brothers face that he was wrong because have the things we talk about he is always write so yay i win...

It is amazing at what those chickens will eat. My mom smokes outside and as others have described they play foot ball with the butts but then i take them away cause they cant be healthy.

My chickens also like lunch meat and any scrapps that we give them.. every morning my mom cuts up vegtables and she makes me give the peels of carrots and celeray ends to the chickens they litteraly dive bom them it is insane!!!

one of the problems i have had is there water frezzing. I live in northren michigan and i have to dthaw their water every morning!

Hi! I know now that I was wrong and wont do it again, but my little chicks love hotdogs! I put a tiny piece of bread in the box with them, no dice! So I was sitting there eating a cold hotdog, and Just wondering what they would do, so i tossed this really tiny piece in there with them and they went apes! they did the 440 race like passing the baton! Any way got to thinking maybe not a good Idea, so i went to the pet store and got some of the tiniest little crickets I could find and well they were a big hit! Anyway called Ideal Hatchery (after the fact, Dumbo me) and asked if they could even have the crickets and they said no! OOOPPPs to late. But all are still doing fine, Didn't mention the hotdog kinda knew that was wrong! Guilty feeling and all! who'd have thought baby chicks couldn't eat bugs, I thought that there mothers taught them how to find such things? Any way it was still just too cute to watch them!
