breaking a dog from chasing chooks

I just held a chicken by my dogs face, and if she looked at it, I slapped her snout and yelled no. I had also beat down on her when she would chase them in the beginning. now she goes around them.

A beat down? Really?

As a professional dog trainer and one who has 8 dogs, 7 sheep, 2 barn cats and 30 free ranging chickens even when my dogs are out in the yard with them I would suggest recruiting the help of a professional.

As some have stated here there are too many variables, there is no magic formula whether it be a shock collar or a beat down every situation is different depending on the owner, the dog and the environment. A well referenced professional and help you with the correct techniques and save you the lives of your birds and dog.
