Mine were from a March hatch too and just started laying. One last week and now another hen this week.
Nice!

Ours are 5 months old and nowhere near... they sure are roost potatoes though.

My Blue breda are 8 months old. The pullet's wattles are bright red so she could start laying any day.

My Silver Birchen Marans from the same hatch hasn't started laying either. Half of my Basque Hens from that hatch finally started laying last week. The Basque that are laying are giving eggs every other day.

I was beginning to think that the cool weather and shorter day light was the reason all the pullets were taking so long to lay, but two weeks ago all of my 22 week old Cottage Hill Black Copper Marans pullets started laying right on cue and have all been giving 5-6 eggs a week.

I think the Marans do lay better in the cold weather though. This August when everyone else was laying in the 103 deg F. heat the Marans were molting.

I will be recording egg production the first year with my Breda.

I heard crowing in the coop last night. I know what the Blue copper marans sounds like and this crow was mature but different . So I sneaked out to take a peek and it was one of my Breda roosters. Never knew them to crow. My bredas are growing up!

How wonderful! I'm looking forward to ours laying and crowing too. They sure do take their time but it will be worth it, I think. They're such mellow birds.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I just can't ignore it... :barnie   It's WATTLES not waddles; that's what ducks do.

Haha! Of course you are right! Doh!
So, i lost my BEAUTIFUL blue hen when we had a predator attack. Thankfully, i
my black splashy lady and white splash survived without much harm. I really need to get some pivtures as they are beautiful birds! Do any of you think you will have hatching eggs available in the spring? I would really love to add a few more to our flock, even a roo so i can hatch some f my own eventually:)
