Breda Fowl thread

Compared to other breeds where you know the sex by 4-5 weeks it seems odd that at 5 months we are still guessing at the sex. :)

I have now raised two generation of Breda and the wattle's growth at about 10 weeks old has been my most reliable method for sexing them. By that alone I would also say two cockerels and a pullet for the trio. By five months the cockerels should also be growing in their saddle feathers which is another thing to check on these birds. I also would compare size since the pullets should be smaller than the cockerels at 5 months.

Has anyone tried feather sexing Breda? I don't know much about feather sexing but know a Marans breeder that said she has been breeding for feather sexability for four years and now gets good accuracy using that to sex her Marans flock. Would that work on Breda?

at 10 weeks I was for sure I had a cockerel and 2 pullets. the black one had wattles the other 2 did not. The black one is the one everyone has said they thought was a pullet. They are all the same age.

My Breda eggs arrived! NONE were broken, and packaging was fabulous! I'm giddy with excitement!
