Hurray!  Are they all pullets?  I hope your Cuckoo is a terrific layer.  Our Cuckoo girl has given us 9 eggs in 10 days so far!  My DH feels sorry for her laying so many big eggs in a row!  She is hungry all the time so we keep feeding her.

They are all straight run so it will be a mystery I guess lol hopefully since I got 5 mottled maybe at least one will be a hen if my cuckoo ends up being a hen I will put my black Breda rooster with her if it's a rooster I'll put it with my black Breda hen i just hope I don't have bad luck with the post office again cause even tho it's guarantee shipping its not really guaranteed cause last time I bought chicks they were guaranteed to be there on a Friday but didn't show up till a Monday

Experienced breeders ship on Mondays or Tuesdays so chicks/chickens arrive before the weekend. I can't believe the USPS was so negligent not to deliver your live chicks before a weekend! The shortest USPS delivery from breeder to my P.O. was 13 hours and the longest was 36 hours -- i found that if the shipping box is labeled in very large letters "Call Customer for Pickup" w/ the customer's telephone number in Large Numbers also that it catches the post office workers' attention to call right away. Last time I got my RFR of CA shipment my post office doesn't open until 8 a.m. but the post office called me at 6 a.m. to come pickup my chicken. Some post offices like ours receive poultry shipments all the time and are aware the birds need to be kept in controlled temps and the added box note in giant letters to "Call Customer for Pickup" (on both sides) is an added help. The post office says their policy is to always call a customer for pickup yet my very first shipment of chickens was riding around in a hot postal truck -- if I didn't keep calling the post office 2 days in a row my chickens would've cooked in my postman's truck and I demanded "immediate" delivery of those poor birds. The post office has policies yet you can speak to 3 different postal office workers that tell you something different. I tell all my breeders to ship w/ large handwritten instructions and since then I get my birds very quickly. The postal label in tiny print says who the customer is w/ the phone number but post offices handle thousands of packages every day so who of them really takes the time to read the fine print? The info has to be handwritten by the breeder on both sides because the shippers slap all kinds of labels all over the shipping boxes and might cover the handwriting. (I blocked out my personal info on this picture but it shows how the handwriting captures attention).

P.S. The breeder has to ship BEFORE 3 p.m. their time in order for the birds to get shipped right away. My breeders have their time shipped around 2:30 p.m. so the birds aren't sitting around in the post office all day before getting shipped out at 3:00.

Yeah actually when I had bad luck with the post office the last time it was the post offices fault 100% the breeder normally ships on Tuesday but he shipped on Wednesday cause I didn't see his email till after three that Tuesday and when he shipped on that Wednesday they were suppose to be there the next day but got stuck in Tennessee for almost 2 days cause the idiots usps took them by vehicle instead of putting them on plane the postmaster told me that and they got stuck in a factory on Sunday and by the time I got them on Monday they were all dead I called usps probably a million times on that Friday and talked to a million different workers and not one was actually helpful I haven't ever been too satisfied with usps I just hope I don't have the same problem again the postmaster is always nice enough to call at 6 am right when they arrive but last time it was too late

Dutch connection is not Out of the bredas, she just reduced her flock a bit to concentrate on her other breeds. She has a flock of her bredas and is still breeding them. She isnt out of them.and won't be. She will still have them and breed them.

I hope you have a much better experience this time! A breeder should never try shipping out on Wednesday. Shipping on Monday or Tuesday will allow for USPS delays so the birds can still arrive before a weekend. I have had excellent breeders that stay in touch w/ me about our weather conditions and if a Monday or Tuesday shipment can be accomplished. @RFR of CA and @chicken danz are excellent communicators -- they love the birds they are shipping to you and want them to arrive safely as much as you do! RFR delayed shipping our last Breda for several weeks because we were going through some extreme heatwaves and kept in touch until it was okay to ship. Some breeders are so-o-o nice about such things I don't mind giving an extra gratuity for their trouble.

Glad you are keeping that info out there for us and so glad Dutch is keeping a breeding flock going. The more individual breeding flocks available in the USA the better chance for diversity and individual lines. The Breda are so-o-o worth it. Other than their fabulous temperament here is another reason for their worthiness:

As of today since our Cuckoo Breda started laying, she has given us eleven XL eggs in 13 days! Some eggs are missing in the skelter since we sent my DS home w/ some fresh eggs for his breakfast! I plan to make a quiche w/ these beauties! Has anyone else got XL eggs from their Breda pullets? I can't believe the SIZE of these eggs! She is such a tall slim Cuckoo I wasn't expecting such big eggs!
