Breda Fowl thread

Well, hope my 'puter is ok now - darn 'puters! I love working w/ RFR but they no longer carry the Blue or the Cuckoo -- my DH loves the Blue. I have a Blue pullet on order from @chicken danz this Spring to replace the Blue we lost last year. I stagger the ages of my birds so they don't get old all at once. Next Spring 2018 I'd like another pullet of unknown color and another in 2019 maybe if DH can manage 6 hens. My oldest is 6 yrs old - a Silkie - and she's pretty much done laying - she is my constant gardening companion, she loves to dig for worms while I'm working. I'm hoping someday someone can breed a Blue & White Mottled w/ a lot of Blue rather than a lot of White in the mottling. MY SILKIE GARDENING COMPANION W/ BLUE BREDA WE LOST LAST YEAR
What color is your other silkie is it a partridge I remember u said u had a black silkie and how did u know chickendanz has Breda does that person have a website I was just curious to know

There's only two mottled breeders I know and one is Dutch connection and the other is rare feathers ranch didn't you get your cuckoo from rare feathers ranch how come you don't get a mottled from her

My 'puter browser Firefox doesn't support Java w/ the last update and apparently Java is needed for BYC -- I was getting a lot of jibberish on BYC after my Firefox update. Had to use another browser just to use all the BYC features. I couldn't even post pics.

Practiced posting a picture w/ the new browser but it is not working right either! Edge browser doesn't have a menu toolbar and I use toolbar features a lot. Searching for yet another browser that will be compatible w/ BYC's Java! It's even frustrating my techy DH.

To me google chrome and Internet explorer are the best browsers

Quote: This is chicken danz. Sylvester017 and I met on BYC some time ago. I don't have a website. I raise so many birds I don't have time to maintain a website and most of my birds are sold by word of mouth. I raise thousands of birds each year. I've raised Breda since they were first imported into the U.S. They are the sweetest chickens. Not a great meat chicken or great layer but their personality is what makes them winners. I haven't sold great numbers, like many of the breeds, but I keep them because I love them. I have a mottled Breda but haven't separated her to create more. I love the surprises each hatch brings me. And I can tell you, the BBS color rules of how many blues, splash and blacks hatch from what combination does not apply to Breda. I have come up with all kinds of surprises. Another thing I love about them.

I believe chicken danz already answered your question. She is a very busy breeder w/ many ducks, geese, chickens, and some game birds besides dog breeding, livestock in general. She is very knowledgeable and I highly value her input. She's probably had every breed of chicken imaginable and she breeds not only her favorites but also breeds birds that meet customer-base demand. For all the varieties of birds she breeds she couldn't possibly keep up w/ all the associated BYC threads and still get her farm chores done

. I have been blessed to have crossed paths w/ chicken danz.

Breda, to me, are prolific layers. I don't know if it's because of what I'm feeding mine or if I got lucky with my two pullets (Cuckoo and Blue) but in 3 weeks my Breda only missed 2 days of laying an egg. I'm getting worried she's laying TOO much! My Blue was a prolific layer too although her eggs were 1/4-oz less weight than our Cuckoo eggs. Both have shocked us w/ their great production.

I have only 2 Silkies -- the oldest is Partridge at 6 yrs and the little Black is about 51/2 yrs. The Partridge barely lays any more but the little Black is still doing a great job laying (for a Silkie that is!)

My Firefox is working intermittently w/ BYC. Never been a problem in 4 yrs and all of a sudden Firefox doesn't seem to support Java so I have to read my emails and just go directly to BYC and avoid the Firefox and email address I use so I don't get hang-ups. I couldn't log out of BYC either -- it refused to drop down the BYC log out menu. Haven't a clue why all of a sudden there are problems. I was getting the QUOTE and REPLY prompts in the posts but MULTI would not appear and my photos went whacko getting posted.

Anyway, I've favored Firefox for several years, and Edge came w/ my Windows10 and never used it because it has no Toolbar header, and I always detested Internet Explorer. My DH uses Chrome and I may have to bite the bullet and have access to that. Also, every ding dang time my computer updates a program something always goes whacky for a day or two until everything talks with each other again. 'Puters -- gotta love 'em, gotta hate 'em

I had the same trouble couple of days ago but put it down to high winds (our internet is 'spotty' at times). All seems to be well now. I use Firefox all the time. They are a definite mixed blessing....on some days I can feel my blood pressure rising...

Something is still whacky -- I can't even log out any more. Just because it might say I'm online I may not be -- BYC won't let me log out. I have "Insufficient Permission" ????
