Regardless of whom you got your Breda, from most of them came from the same gene pool at some point from overseas. There were limited imports a few years back and prior to that, they became a forgotten breed in the U.S. for nearly a century. Many of our modern day birds were produced by farmers mixing other types of birds with Breda fowl. Most people either say "Interesting" when they see my Bredas. Never have figured out if that is a negative or positive comment but I am a often asked if I will be hatching any.
Most people don't pay much attention to the breeds of chickens we have. But you better believe I make sure they notice the unusual characteristics of all of them. Silkies capture attention because they are little and look like little fluffy bunnies on two feet or look like Tribbles from the old Star Trek series. I make sure people know the large fowl are Breda with NO-comb and just a triangle tassle, vulture hocks, and feathered legs/toes. Otherwise, ordinary folks just see chickens and not how beautiful or distinct each one is. I'm not a crazy chicken lady for nothing!
