As promised I'm back with photos! I am pretty sure they are about 6 weeks old I have had them for 5weeks I was told the black ones were Jersey Giants and the Red ones were Road Island Red... I am unsure if that is true one of the reds has an awfully lot of white on her (him?). I am pretty sure one of my JG is a rooster... maybe 2 but any help is welcome....

1 Princess- is my favorite supposedly a RR but...? Hope it's a hen!

2 Violet- I think is a rooster he has just gotten a slight pink to his comb and one of the... uuum lumps? on his comb seems to be a little larger also he has almost no tail. He is the smallest of my chickens but he is a spunky lil guy.

3 Plum

4 Winnie- another favorite a little less spunky then my other black ones very sweet

5 Lucy rooster? chicken? Ijust dunno?

First, nobody is screaming rooster...it is only 6 weeks so that is not definitive...but roo's that are showing by now have substantially more comb and redness than any of these birds are showing.

#1 is probably a Red Star/Gold Star...that is a lot of white for a RIR...looks to be pullet (which it totally would be if 1st generation Red Sexlink/Star/Queen)

#2 Might be a roo if any look to be roo's, but again, not an impressive amount of comb or redness. I'm not overly familiar with Jersey Giants...but to my knowledge they don't come in that color...aren't they supposed to be black, blue, splash or white? That is more of a penciled partridge or coppery ticking like a Black Copper Marans...has thicker legs and looks like it could be a Marans. However, not enough comb for a Marans roo...they show early....so might be a Marans pullet even with those thick legs...my Marans girls have beefy legs.

#3 Is a RIR, pullet

#4 unsure of breed...might be your Black Jersey Giant (should have yellow foot soles?), pullet

#5 looks to be another Black Copper Marans, if that feathering is only on the outside toe, pullet

My guesses

Due to the angle of the pics, they look like pullets. Maybe try and get some comb and wattle shots. I'm bad with breeds but number 1 maybe is a red sex link and number 5 maybe an EE?

Thanks I agree I don't think they are what the chick boxes at the grain store were marked accept for the RR. I will check for yellow soles of feet and try to get some close ups of comb and wattle!

I looked up sex-links and I agree that looks much more like them especially the black ones!

hmmm so if they are "sex-link" chickens what does that mean? Does it have any bearing on the gender?

Yes, for Red Sex Links the red colored ones are pullets (the cockerels would be almost pure white)
for Black Sex Links the black colored ones are pullets (the cockerels would be barred black and white)

so if they are sex links then you got all girls.
