Breed and Sex of Found Chicken

The hen or rooster has turned into quite the source of entertainment.

Still no crowing.
Still no eggs.

Definitely a cockerel with that comb and those feathers.

Have you considered a no-crow collar to keep him quiet? It doesn't always work but in some cases it can be very beneficial.

No. If it is a rooster it will have to be rehomed. Rosters are banned here and I've got a neighbor that will call it in on me.

Luckily my husband's ain't knows a lady. She's about 2 hours away though and my 4 year old is super attached.... So waiting as long as possible and hoping for the miracle egg.

It's not going to be making her say goodbye when ghee crowing starts

really stinks that roosters tend to be more friendly!!! I hadn't heard that before. Explains why my flock of 10 hens that i've tried to touch or hold everyday still resists any people contact, the lil stinkers!

1 RIR, 1 Speckled Sussex, 3 EE, (3mths), 1 buff orp, 1 columbian wyan (5 wks), 1 BCM, 2 BLRW (3 wks)

Most chickens do not enjoy being handled, picked up, or pet. Lap chickens are not the norm, even if regularly handled when young. Younger birds are also very instinctively fearful of anything larger than them and anything that moves over their heads. They are prey animals, after all. Never reach over them or try to grab at them. Just makes them more nervous.

Well ours has decided it doesn't appreciate being picked up much anymore. about 10% of the time now when you pick it up it nips you.

BTW... STILL no crowing. STILL no eggs. STILL have the bird.

Lulu's middle name is Houdini.
