Went to the feed store to get some chicks, promised my 5 year old she could pick them out this time. The only ones they had left were called "Ideal". They were 'housed' with Rhode Island Reds but I can't find any info on them. Anyone know anything about these?

I would say that it wasnt a breed but where they purchased them from.. Ideal is name of a hatchery that supplies a lot of the feed stores

You've gotta post pics, the only Ideal I've ever heard of relating to chickens is Ideal Hatchery. Interesting.......

The Ideal 236 is a Leghorn type breed they promote. Never heard of another called that. From Ideal Poultry's site:

Ideal 236 is a breed cross layer developed by Ideal Poultry in the 1960's and is the most productive, efficient layer sold by Ideal. They are known for their production of large, smooth-shelled, white eggs. This breed cross has excellent hybrid vigor, and the specific combination of breeds has produced a bird with excellent livability and the ability to lay for a long period of time without molting.

The mature weight of Ideal 236 hens is 4.5 lbs. which is heavier than most commercial layers.

Ideal also has a breed called Ideal production black. I had one of these... looks a lot like a barred rock and layed white eggs.

Wow, sounds like we got some good egg layers. They are all yellow with white-ish wings. One has 2 black dots on top of her head and the owner said they normally all have those spots.
