Breed help, please. Silver 55 Flowery hen chicks?

They will approach me but I can't touch them yet. My current pair is just a year and a half old. And I've had this pair for about a year. It takes a long time with emus. I had a pair a few years ago that was very tame with me. I could pet and mess with them all over like you would a dog. But other people they wouldn't come near. And had them for years. I'd say it took about 3 years for them to totally trust me. I wouldn't really call emus a tame animal. They tolerate people, but can be very dangerous when cornered or frightened. They could easily severely injure a child or even an adult if they wanted to.

Thanks for your help. Sounds like a bad plan for a petting zoo! I guess the ones I've seen at real petting zoos are older and took many years of handling. Maybe I'll look into peacocks next! ;)

Mary please check out the "Emu forum," for more info. I don't think they would be stable for a petting zoo, and due to size, they could hurt someone without meaning to.

Thank you, @drumstick diva. I fully agree. No emus for our petting zoo, no matter how cool they seem! It is definitely not worth an accidental injury.
